I have been playing with a technique of tissue paper and mod podge on a canvas. It gives tons of texture to the canvas and you paint on top of it. I am really enjoying this and it is all my idea not borrowed. That makes it that much more fun for me!

Sounds silly huh? I Heart Art! But I dooo. I have recently taken a new space to do my art. One daughter is married a son at school... I still have two at home ;) BUT I have a SPACE woohoooooo. And I am lovin' my space!!It is amazing how much free'er one feels when you can just get up and leave your mess and not have to put itall away immedietly to get dinner done or to set the table etc. I feel spoiled that I am having this opportunity, well... not too much!This is a fun piece that I did and made a little abstract. I painted some modpodge on the canvas added some tissue paper let it dry and painted away. I love all the imperfections and creases a little like me!!xoxo

Spring Break

My husband and sons and I, were fortunate to be able to take our boat away with us on Spring Break this year. It is a small boat but it is perfect for us. We went to Daytona Beach and to St Augustine. If you ever have the opportunity to do this I highly recommend this! We had a ball and we saw over 40 dolphins. Each time was more exciting than the next.
We saw lighthouses and I was inspired. This is a painting of the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse at Dusk.

I have had many blessings come my way. My daughter got married 2 weeks ago and I have a grandchild on the way. I have a family and husband whom I adore and I just got back from paint in Virginia Beach. I mean how great is that??? God IS good!!

It's time for the Key's

This past week for spring break we went to the Florida Key's it was a FABULOUS week we saw Key Deer for those of you not familiar they are tiny deer that are endangered and they inhabit the island. We saw at least 10 it was awesome! We also went for a very long bike ride around Key West and saw 2 manatee in a boat harbor. So many beautiful sights to see I came home inspired.

Well, I know I don't post as I should that is for sure. But I painted today and it felt good! A little over a week ago well 2 weeks ago I got really sick and the I finally went to the doctor and ended up in the ER and then having Gallbladder surgery! Not fun and they found a hernia at the same time and removed that. Sooo life has been a little different for me lately. Hopefully I will have class this week.
I painted 75 champagne glasses today for a wedding. I hope they like them I think they will make a great favor!

I just got home from a fabulous week. I have never flown before to go away and paint it was quite a experience to "hawl" all that stuff around I dont mind telling you!! It was worth all of the effort. I would do it again in a heart beat. I have missed painting the clay is fun I am really enjoying it but it felt good to have a brush in my hand again.

This seems to be the rain that never ends here.... We live is South Florida and the storm is in North Florida. This is what we did today. NOTHING because we were stuck inside. But it did make a nice day to read and play games with the kids. Boggle is really fun if you ever get the chance.

This weekend we celebrated Derek's 17th birthday. He has a summer birthday and it seems he just well... never has a party ;-( His sisters on the other hand have always made out like bandits on this subject :)
Since more than likely Derek will be away to College next summer we had a special day for him. It was fabulous!!! We all had a ball.
At the moment he is on a airplane I dropped him off this morning (sniff sniff) He will be biking up to 40 miles per day to go to different churches in Massachusetts to sing and perform skits. How cool is that!?? I am so proud... He was a little nervous (alot) he has a special place for God and this is right up his ally. I am sharing some pictures with you of our boating trip.

Well, the time has come. I will be teaching at AcMoore April 7,8 and 9th. I am truly blessed and lucky to have this to go to. But I am nervous at the same time. I have been with Michael's for 5 1/2 years now and it is my comfort zone... I know change is good but it can be intimidating also :) . The good news for me personally is, is that ACMoore's is 2 miles from my home. Amazing how thing work out isn't it?

I hope to step out of my "box" and to bring you along with me. Clases will be called Decorative Painting with Bev. Below is a samole of our first class. I hope to see you there....

Hello my Friends,
For those of you that came to class last week you heard some news that I was hoping would be wrong. As it turns out I was correct in the fact that Michael's will be stopping all classes in their stores except for Wilton. This information initially stunned me. I have been with Michael's 5 1/2 years now. Loving every minute of it. I have always said how blessed I am to be able to have a job to go to that I ABSOLUTLY LOVE!!! Not many people can make that statement.
I have just heard officially that I have until the end of March in Michael's. So this is good news, I think. The first week of April I will be away on Spring Break with my family. Then I will be teaching at ACMoore. If you are not familiar with ACMoore it is an arts and crafts store similar to Michael's that has been a northern store that has just started to open this far south. I am lucky to have this store 2 miles from my home :). Now I DO realize it is much farther for you all. Most of you have said that you will still come to class you have know idea how that made me feel. Everyone of you have a special place in my heart.
On a really super positive note I am off to paint this weekend with one of my favorite artists Ros Stallcup www.gransgarden.com and will come back refreshed and ready to teach new things to you ;-) Only I have to drive 12 hours to my class. What AM I THINKING?????

This weekend my husband and I went to the Las Olas Art Festival. Sooooooo much inspiration there I have to tell you! You might want to check your calenders for all of the upcoming show for the season. It was a beautiful day out there.

Anyhow, I had bought all of the new HD paints and have left then IN the box! Yes I know that is no no but I did. This morning is the first day back to school and I had a few hours to myself. So I broke out the box and painted right over a older canvas that I had done. The paints were fun and VERY different to work with.

· I will read the directions for products and projects to avoid unwanted results.

(Although sometimes this results in "Happy Accidents", reading never hurts!)
· I will not be afraid to try new techniques and mediums.

(How else would I have found out that no hand-woven basket can be priced too high!)·

I will silence the inner critic and acknowledge my skills, creativity and progress.

(Even if I have to put duct tape over my brain!)·

I will not covet my classmate's projects

(Or offer them huge amounts of $ to trade pieces with me.)·

I will not say that I am too busy to take time to paint.

Great super quick recipe

Mini-Pretzel Rolo Treats

60 miniature pretzels

1 pkg (13 oz) Rolo candies (may use 8 - 1.7 oz rolls - 8 ea)

60 pecan or walnut halves or whole almonds (try some of each)

Line baking sheets w/foil. Place pretzels on foil; top each pretzel w/ a candy. Bake 250* for 4 min or until candies are softened (candy will retain its shape). Immediately place a pecan or walnut piece on each candy & press down so candy fills pretzel. Cool slightly. Refrigerate for 10 min or until set.Yield: 60

Brush Cleaning Tips

A tip I learned for cleaning brushes is first, you use a brush cleaner

or Murphy's Oil soap. There is a cleaning disk with teeth and it works

great! After you have gently scrubbed the brushes back and forth

(flat sides down) rinse them very well, then dry them on a paper

towel. After you get all the water out, take a small amount of brush cleaner

(or Murphy's soap) on your fingers and put the cleaner back on the brush,

reshaping and flattening the bristles. You pinch them really flat reshape

to the way you want them to look. Lay the brush down flat on the counter

to dry overnight. The soap works like the original sizing that came in the

brush to protect it during shipping. Never leave your brushes to dry with the bristles
pointing up like in a jar. This will allow even a minute bit of water
to seep down in to the ferrule, melt the glue and loosen the bristles.

Well it has been a while since I posted. My life is kind of upside down at the moment. We are living in my parents home for a month while they are away. Our kitchen is being renovated along with tiling the house and taking down popcorn ceilings...

It has made it hard to paint but I am trying to keep up with my classes. I have painted on 2 picture frames one looks like a barnwood and here in South Florida there are really not many old windows so this is my version. Then I painted on a white frame for a winter scene.

I just found out that AC Moore will be coming farther south. For those of you not aware of who they are they are a northern craft store. One has opened in Pompano but this one will be REALLY close to me yippee! It will be on the corner of Weston Road and Griffin Road just off I-75. how cool is that!!
One of the things that I do like about Ac Moore is that they email you their weekly ads and coupons too! I wish Michaels would do that!

This summers One Stroke Convention

I was fortunate to be able to go to Orlando this summer for a One Stroke painting convention. If you ever have the chance I highly recommend it. It is soooo much fun! It is great to be with others with the same interest as you. I have many old and new friends that I get to see each time that I go.

If you ever had any doubt, Donna is just as amazing in person as she seems on TV. A very genuine and wonderful lady.
